■ Do You Remember May 22, 1996?

Do you know what happened on May 22, 1996?
That was the day the very first Mission: Impossible film premiered in theaters!

■ I Watched “Dead Reckoning” with My Family

Recently, I went to see the newest installment,
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, with my family.

And as always, Tom Cruise was running like crazy!
At around 60 years old, he’s still in incredible shape.
There’s even a scene where he’s shirtless, showing off his well-toned body.

Let’s be honest—how many 60-year-olds can still sprint like that?
Certainly not me...!

■ What Does “Dead Reckoning” Mean?

One thing that really caught my attention was the title:

Dead Reckoning

After looking it up, I found it can mean:

  • The Final Judgment

  • Ultimate reckoning or payback

It makes me wonder—is this truly the final chapter in the series?
There's been no official announcement, but the title seems to hint at it.

■ What’s the Meaning Behind “5/22/1996” in the Film?

In the film, there's a letter with the date “5/22/1996” written on it.
At first, I didn’t understand the significance,
but when I got home and did some research, I realized—
That’s the exact day the first Mission: Impossible movie premiered in the U.S.

Nearly 30 years have passed since then.
It really makes you feel how time flies.

■ Memories of Watching on a 14-Inch Analog TV

I remember renting the first Mission: Impossible on VHS
and watching it on a tiny 14-inch analog TV.

Despite the small screen, the wire-suspension scene and the tension of the dripping sweat left a lasting impact—
maybe even more intense than watching in a theater.

Back then, we were still in the age of dial-up internet, VHS tapes, cassette players, and the DoCoMo i-mode.
I even bought a satellite dish just to record movies from WOWOW onto VHS.
The screen quality was nowhere near today’s HD, but it was the brilliance of the writing that truly moved me.

Tom Cruise Still Runs—Just Like 30 Years Ago

The newest film reminded me of how little has changed in terms of excitement.
And more importantly, it reminded me of my own journey over the past 30 years.

■ Gratitude and Looking Ahead

A lot has happened in the past 30 years—both professionally and personally.
I’ve had the chance to live overseas through work and experience things I never imagined.
For all the people who supported me along the way, I’m deeply grateful.

Looking ahead, I hope that 30 years from now,
I’ll be able to say: “That was another amazing chapter in life.”

■ In Closing

Thank you, Tom Cruise, for all your hard work.
And thank you, Mission: Impossible, for an incredible ride!
